St. Louis Science Center

St. Louis Science Center - Our visit to check it out

Over the Christmas break, we had the opportunity to check out the St. Louis Science Center.  We have been here several times, however, there are always new things to do and see.  And with having some very cold weather and some really bored kids, it was a great place to explore.

Christmas Traditions – Our Way

Christmas Traditions - Sharing some of our family traditions

Many families have their Christmas traditions.  Our family is no different.  Many of the traditions that my family now incorporates each year are ones that my parents started with me and my siblings many years ago.  Others we have added along the way.  I look forward to sharing some of the things that our family does and hope that you will also share some of yours with us.

Gift Giving – It Truly Is The Thought That Counts

Gift Giving - Several great ideas that anyone would like that won't break the bankThis post may contain affiliate links.  Please read the disclosure policy for more information.

Gift Giving

Gift giving can be rather difficult.  Who do I need to give a gift too?  How much should I spend?  These are just a few of the questions that run through your head when you start your Christmas shopping.  I was recently talking with my sister-in-law and she was asking what I do for my kid’s teachers.  So, with that, I thought I would share a bit about how I handle some of my Christmas giftings.

Christmas of Old

Christmas of Old - Experience Christmas in the 1800s

This weekend our family had the opportunity to experience Christmas of old.  We traveled back in time as we visited the Daniel Boone Home for their Christmas Candlelight tour.  We traveled back in time to 1800s to experience what Christmas was like in those days.

Are We There Yet?

Are We There Yet? - Kid activities for a road trip

Are we there yet?  Probably the most four dreaded words parents want to hear on a trip.  I remember our car trips as a kid.  There is something fun about traveling in the back of a station wagon.  You just can’t get the same experience in an SUV.  Regardless somethings never change.  Kids still continue to ask, “Are we there yet?”.  With holidays nearing, the travel season will soon be upon us.

Teaching Gratefulness – Christmas Wish List

Christmas Wish List - Teaching Gratefulness

It is very important to my husband and I that we teach gratefulness to our children.  We have been rather fortunate over our 15 years of marriage.  It hasn’t always been easy, but all in all, it has been pretty good.  When we first had our kids, we had a hard time not buying EVERYTHING for them.  But as you live, you learn.  Each year at Christmas we would see them get stacks and stacks of toys, clothes and other things.  We would see them open one present after another, merely setting them aside for the next box of excitement.

Scared As A Scarecrow

Scared As A Scarecrow - Finding the inner artist with the help of Artzy Wallz, Etc.

Painting has me scared as a scarecrow!  You see, I consider myself quite crafty, but artistic is a completely different thing to me.  My husband is an artist.  He builds beautiful pieces from wood, metal and other recycled things.  He draws and paints beautifully.  But I, on the other hand, have always had trouble beyond drawing stick people.

Raise Financially Smart Kids

Child hands holding a piggy bank

Raising financially smart kids is extremely important to my husband and I.  We were both raised by parents that were financially savvy with their money regardless of how much they had.  With that being said, it stuck with me a bit more than it did my husband.  We do help though to balance one another out.  My parents opened a savings account for my siblings and me when we were very young.  I remember having a cardboard card that you filled with your coins and then would deposit once full.  Obviously, some things have changed a little bit over the years, but teaching your kids to be financially responsible at a young age is still extremely important.

Pumpkins & Corn Maze

Front Entrance to Heartland Farms

Who doesn’t like pumpkins and a corn craze this time of year?  Typically, my life is pretty scheduled.  However, this past weekend after a karate demonstration, my son mentioned his karate club was heading to a local pumpkin patch.  Yes, he knew about this weeks ago but neglected to mention it.  For once, we didn’t have anything scheduled, so why not?  In years past, we have visited a place called Rombach Farms.  However, due to some family squabbling this year, Rombach Farms will not be opening for the first time since 1951.  Luckily, there are other farms around us.  So this year it was Heartland Farms for us!
